How to choose a dehumidifier for a home in Dubai and the UAE
The short answer
Start by confirming the air is actually too humid, ideally with a few days of readings. Then size the unit by room volume (floor area × ceiling height), not floor area alone, and leave some headroom. Finally match it to how you live: how quiet it must be, whether a drain is nearby, whether you also want particle filtration, and your budget.
1. Confirm the problem first
Condensation on the inside of windows, a musty smell in wardrobes, laundry that won't dry and readings that stay above 60% all point to excess moisture. Dubai Municipality guidance recommends keeping indoor humidity below 60%, and below 50% where feasible. If you only have a vague damp feeling, a week of readings is worth more than a guess. How to measure humidity properly.
If there is a leak, recent water damage or mold that keeps returning, fix or assess the source before buying anything. A dehumidifier treats the air, not the cause.
2. Size it by volume, with headroom
Multiply floor area by ceiling height to get the volume of air to treat. A 20 m² bedroom with a 2.6 m ceiling is about 52 m³. Manufacturers rate units by maximum room size, so a unit working near its upper limit will run longer. Choose one with room to spare, especially for high ceilings or open-plan spaces.
| Model | Rated capacity | Rated room size | Noise | Filter |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Theo | 10 L/day | Up to 40 m² / 100 m³ | 42 dB(A) | None |
| Albert | 20 L/day | Up to 70 m² / 175 m³ | 33–44 dB(A) | None |
| Lukas | 20 L/day | Up to 70 m² / 175 m³ | 38–52 dB(A) | Optional HEPA H11 |
| Lukas Pro | 50 L/day | Up to 175 m² / 435 m³ | 38–55 dB(A) | HEPA H11 included |
Manufacturer ratings from Stadler Form UAE, checked 20 October 2026. Stadler Form states rated performance from about 22 °C and 70% relative humidity.
3. Think about the room, not just the size
- Bedrooms: noise matters most. Compare the lowest rated noise level, and look for a night mode.
- Open-plan living: treat it as one space only if air moves freely between the areas. Place the unit centrally.
- Several closed rooms: a portable unit treats the room it is in. Plan one unit per problem room.
- Laundry and utility rooms: higher capacity and a drain hose make life easier.
4. Decide how you will remove the water
A tank is simple but has to be emptied. A drain hose runs water to a floor drain or sink lower than the unit. All four Stadler Form models above include a hose. Tank or drain hose: which suits you.
5. Decide whether you also want filtration
Removing moisture does not clean dust or fine particles from the air. If you want both, a model with a HEPA filter does two jobs in one unit. Lukas Pro includes a HEPA H11 filter; Lukas accepts one as an option.
6. Set the right target once it is running
Most homes do well between 40% and 60%. Stadler Form suggests 50–55% for most UAE homes. Going much lower wastes energy and can make the air feel dry.
Frequently asked questions
What size dehumidifier do I need for a bedroom in Dubai?
Work out the volume first: floor area × ceiling height. Many Dubai bedrooms fall between 30 and 80 m³. A 10 L/day unit rated to 100 m³ suits small rooms with a mild problem; a 20 L/day unit gives more headroom and is often quieter at low settings. If the room is used for sleep, compare the lowest noise rating.
Can one dehumidifier treat a whole villa?
Not reliably. A portable dehumidifier treats the room or connected open space it sits in. Closed doors stop it reaching other rooms. For a villa, start with the worst rooms and plan one unit per problem area, or ask about a ducted solution.
Is a dehumidifier the same as an air purifier?
No. A dehumidifier removes moisture; an air purifier removes particles. Some models do both: Lukas Pro includes a HEPA H11 filter and Lukas accepts one as an option.
Why does my dehumidifier collect less water than its rating?
Ratings are measured in warm, humid test air. Stadler Form states its rated performance applies from about 22 °C and 70% relative humidity. In a cooler, drier air-conditioned room, less water is removed. That is normal.
